Biography
Ann is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics and Head of the Discipline of Marketing. Her research interests lie in the convergence of strategy, entrepreneurship and marketing practices. In this context, she is curious about the confluence between e-marketing and marketing communications, as well as between organisational strategy and innovative marketing practice. Her interest in negotiating theory and practice adds an additional dimension to these topics. She is recognised as an accomplished case writer, earning a number of awards for her work. Ann obtained an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and her PhD from Trinity College Dublin.
Research Interests
My research endeavours lie in three areas: (1) Strategy, (2) Entrepreneurship and (3) Marketing Practice. Diversity in marketing practices and strategy within organisations is my PhD thesis topic. I have written a number of articles and case studies on entrepreneurial firms and the challenges they meet within their industry.
Digital Marketing and Marketing Communications:
Among the range of areas I teach are e-business marketing, marketing policy and strategy, as well as media and marketing communications. My research in this area is conducted in collaboration with colleagues in the Discipline of Business Information Systems and the Discipline of Management.
Business Negotiations: An emerging area of subject expertise is negotiations, which has resulted in my appointment to deliver the Business Negotiations module to the Executive MBA programme. I have developed my expertise through training Harvard University’s Program on Negotiations (PON) and the Harvard Negotiation Institute (HNI). I was a visiting fellow at Harvard University during my sabbatical in 2013. I am currently combining my interests in digital communications and online dispute resolution (ODR).
