Biography

Dr. Amna Shifa is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Computer Science, University of Galway, This prestigious award is supported by the MSCA grant agreement No.101109961(Project: SISSViD) under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme funded by the European Union. This industry-led multidisciplinary project is focused on Data protection-by-design (PbD) and content information-based search and retrieval. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan under the government-funded project 6282/Punjab/NRPU/R&D/HEC/2016. The primary focus of her doctoral research titled "Effective Security Framework for Confidentiality Protection of Smart Surveillance Systems" was to address the limitations of security measures and the restricted capabilities of surveillance systems by designing a security framework that protects the confidentiality of videos. This interdisciplinary work encompasses computer vision, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), and cryptography.

She served as a regular faculty member in the Department of Information Security (DIS), Faculty of Computing, at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan, where she is currently on postdoctoral leave. With over 10 years of lecturing and R&D experience, she brings extensive knowledge and expertise to her academic role. In her position, she supervised one Ph.D (in progress), six MS/M.Phil. students (completed), and four research associates recruited under Research Grant 20-15611/NRPU/R&D/HEC/2021. Apart from lecturing and research, she was actively involved in organising capacity-building workshops, talks, webinars, and seminars featuring international speakers within the department.

She has published several articles in ISI-indexed journals and international conference proceedings. She is also actively involved in reviewing research articles for renowned journals and conferences, including those published by IEEE, Springer, and Elsevier. She serves on the technical program committees (TPC) of leading international conferences including the International Conference on Frontiers of Information Technology (FIT 2021–2024). She has organized workshops for SPETVid 2024 and 2025 in conjunction with the EU-organized Security Conference and the International Conference on Availability, Reliability, and Security (ARES-2024, 2025, and 2020) in Austria and Belgium respectively.
