Biography

Amanda Walsh (BSc, PgCert)is a lecturer in Podiatric Medicine at NUI Galway. Her specialities are podopaediatrics and musculoskeletal medicine, whereby she leads specialist paediatric clinics at Merlin Park Hospital Podiatry Clinic, Galway. Amanda teaches and examines students across all four year of the undergraduate programme, and has been actively involved in developing inter-professional learning opportunities within the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She has also established a homeless Podiatry service in Galway, providing Podiatry care for the homeless population within the city. Amanda has also built links with the Traveller Health Unit in the west of Ireland to further explore foot health inequalities in the travelling community. Since taking up post as Podiatry Lecturer at NUI Galway in 2010 Amanda has been actively involved in research and has presented primary and collaborative research at conferences nationally and internationally in the form of poster and oral presentations. Amanda is currently undertaking her PhD in Podiatric Medicine in the remit of paediatrics, specifically pes planus in paediatric Down syndrome. The overall PhD study aims to develop clear assessment surveillance guidelines that may help guide suitable treatment and ultimately help to standardise the management of pes planus for children and adolescents with Down syndrome.
