Biography

Aileen was appointed as Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Medical Education (part-time) at the University of Galway in January 2026 to lead the Masters in Clinical Education for healthcare professionals, and has been teaching and supervising research on this programme since 2017.  She completed her PhD in medical education at UCC, and has a special interest in qualitative research, formative assessment, faculty development and clinical teaching in health professions. Her education development and research experiences includes roles in various postgraduate education and training bodies in Ireland, and she has led large-scale initiatives in curriculum development, workplace-based assessment and in the development of EPAs for GP training in Ireland. Aileen is also an assistant scheme director on the Southeast GP training scheme and supervises MSc and MD research studies. She is a former Editor-in-Chief of The Clinical Teacher and a member of the advisory board of the NIHR-funded Incubator for Clinical Education Research.
