Biography

Joined Shannon College of Hotel Management in 2006 as Lecturer in Accounting and Finance. In 2015 was appointed asProgramme Leader for the BBS and BComm Programmes. Lecture in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, business finance, performance management and asset management.Prior to joining Shannon College of Hotel Management worked as Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Dublin Business School. During the time at Dublin Business School acted as programme leader and lecturer on both academic (undergraduate and postgraduate) and professional accounting (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, IATI, Institute of Bankers)programmes.Research interests include performance management in the service sector, cost control and cost reduction techniques in the hotel industry.

Research Interests

Research for my teaching specialism of accountig and finance:I am interested in the areas of performance management in the service sectorand specifically in the hotel industry. The evolution of Hotel Asset Management and the trends in Asset Management according to changes in the economy. Finally I am interested in the area ofcost control and how this can be achieved in the hospitality sector. I do this by attending industry briefings and conferences and by consulting with industry practicioners through guest speakers, visits to work places and keeping abreast of literture in the different fields. Research for the School: I compile retention statistics for the school on an annual basis Looking at the percentageof students graduating. This information is required for filing purposes and for University wide statistics.

Teaching Interests

My area of teaching is acounting and finance.At Shannon College of Hotel Managementi lecturemodules in Financial Accounting (first and third year), Management Accounting (first and third year), Finance (third and fourth year), Performance Management (fourth year) and Hotel Asset Management (fourth year).In the 20122013 academic year I also delivered the Business Finance module to second year BComm students at NUI Galway. Prior to joining Shannon College of Hotel Management I worked for Dublin Business School (DBS) and held the position of Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance. I worked for DBS from 1995 to 2006. During this time I amassed a lot of experience in teaching at academic (undergraduate and postgraduate) and professional accounting level (ACCACIMACPA). Students of mine achieved over 60 world-wide placings in professional accounting exams with one student in particular winning first place in the world in what was then Paper 8 (Financial Management and Control). At DBS I was involved in executive education programmes in Kuala Lumper and locally in Dublin.
