Biography

Abdul Wahid is a Postdoctoral Researcher with the E-Governance Unit at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University of Galway, and an Industry Fellow with Fidelity Investments. He is also the recipient of the Research Ireland RD&I Fellowship Award (2026). His research focuses on integrating LLMs with knowledge graphs and ontologies, with a particular emphasis on counterfactual knowledge reasoning to enhance factual accuracy, robustness, and trustworthiness in LLMs. More broadly, his work supports the design of inclusive, transparent, and well-governed digital ecosystems, including virtual worlds and immersive environments.

He completed his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Galway in 2024. He holds a Master’s degree in Electronics and Information Engineering from Chonbuk National University, South Korea (2016), and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Engineering from Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, India (2012).

Abdul has substantial teaching and academic service experience alongside his research. He served as a part-time Assistant Lecturer at the Technological University of Shannon, where he designed and delivered a graduate-level course on autonomous vehicle sensor technologies and system architectures. He also serves as an Associate Lecturer at the National College of Ireland, teaching modules in Machine Learning Foundations and AI. In addition, he is actively involved in mentoring students and delivering curriculum-integrated virtual reality workshops across schools in Galway County.

His industry experience includes working as a Research Development Intern at Huawei Research Ireland and as a Data Scientist at Zerve AI, where he developed predictive and prescriptive analytics solutions. Earlier in his career, he was a Research Associate at Chonbuk National University, with research contributions in semantic segmentation and computer vision for autonomous systems and smart agriculture.

Most recently, Abdul has been co-leading funded research projects, including an EDHI-supported initiative (Data2Sustain), and has published in peer-reviewed venues such as ISWC, Applied Sciences, Procedia Computer Science, and Human-Centric Intelligent Systems.
