Overview of our Research

Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Galway are world world-renowned, experienced researchers in the areas of: Power Electronics, Communications, Signal and Image Processing, Biomedical Electronics, Consumer Electronics, Digital Embedded Systems design and the Internet of Things.

Core research is currently focused in the areas of (i) Autonomous Vehicular Technology; (ii) Biomedical Devices; (iii) Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence systems, notably Edge-AI system; and (iv) Power Electronics and Sustainable Energy systems.

The research activity in the discipline is funded through a wide range of external sources including the European Research Council, Science Foundation Ireland, Irish Research Council, Enterprise Ireland as well as various industry sources.  Our researchers regularly publish in high impact journals peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and contribute to patents and industrial research.
