Semester 1 GR340 This seminar focuses on two famous German novellas: Heinrich von Kleist¿s Das Erdbeben in Chili, published in 1807, and Gerhart Hauptmann¿s Bahnwärter Thiel, published in 1888. In so doing, this course seeks to demonstrate the very significant contribution of the novella to the German literary landscape of the nineteenth century.
