Description

This course introduces students to the aspects of geology that are relevant to civil engineers. The course is designed as an overview of the subject, covering mineral and rock formation, rock properties that impact on engineering practice, geo-resources (e.g. extraction, mining, water, heat). Fundamental concepts of geological mapping are taught, and students learn to read and interpret geological maps, as well as the terminology and approaches to interpretation of 3D data and information from 2D maps. The course is designed with application in mind, and will have a practical focus that will reflect student learning needs.
