Public Information Evening on Osteoporosis

Description

The World Osteoporosis Day events continued with a free public information evening event that was scheduled from 6pm – 8pm in the Human Biology Building, University of Galway. The event included several relevant presentations. The introductions were made by Professor John Carey.

The presentations included ‘DXA Scans’ by Rebecca Egan, DXA Technologist @ Merlin Park University Hospital; ‘Osteoporosis’ by Fiona Heaney, Bone Health Nurse Specialist @ Galway University Hospitals; ‘Fracture Liaison Service’ by Aoife Dempsey, cANP Fracture Liaison Service, Merlin Park University Hospital; ‘Build Better Bones’ by Michelle Campbell, Senior Physiotherapist in Rheumatology, Merlin Park University Hospital; ‘Healthy Ageing and Falls Preventions’ by Edel Mannion, Advanced Nurse Practitioner Older Persons, Galway University Hospitals; ‘Osteoporosis – a General Practitioner’s experience’ by Dr. Brian Higgins; and ‘DXA-MAP’ by Dr. Attracta Brennan, University of Galway.

The presentation sessions were closed by Professor John Carey with a Q&A session. Being very interested in the topic, the public engaged in stimulating and interactive discussions. Although the event was scheduled to end at 8pm, it concluded at 9:30.
