Description

Teaching (e.g. Service learning comunity based learning). Lead. NUI Galway stated its intention to become a Mindful University in 2015. Ann took a leading role in the Mindful Way @ NUI Galway from 2015 to 2020, working with a group of people who came together as volunteers to work towards achieving this worthy intention. The group represents the NUI Galway community including administrators, students, academic teaching staff, academic researchers and the local community. This group believes a Mindful University starts with the actual practice of Mindfulness, so encouraging the practice of Mindfulness among staff, students and members of the local community is a priority. Many attend weekly Mindful Shared Practice sessions on the main NUI Galway campus, as well as across many of NUI Galways satellite campuses in Letterkenny, Sligo, Shannon as well as the University Hospital Galway, and moving to online shared practice during the CoVid-19 pandemic in April 2020. This along with the annual Mindful Journeys Symposium, frequent guest speakers and other events, means NUI Galway is at the heart of the practice of Mindfulness in Ireland and internationally. Arising from this is a growing interest in research in this field across all disciplines, along with a growing desire across disciplines to bring Mindfulness into classrooms and lecture halls.
