External Collaboration. Global Vice President for Capacity Building, Education and Training (2007-2010) . In my role as Global Vice President for Capacity Building, Education and Training (2007-2010) I initiated international collaborative work on the development of core competencies for health promotion, including a major initiative in the European region (CompHP) funded by the Executive Agency for Health and Consumers (2009-2012). In June, 2008 an international consensus meeting was hosted at NUI, Galway, which was jointly organised by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, with participation from international leaders in the field. The meeting focused on international collaboration in identifying core competencies and professional standards in health promotion practice, education and training. The Galway Consensus Statement and the proceedings of the meeting were published in special issues of the journals Global Health Promotion and Health Education Behavior in 2009.
